Asia & Pacific

Guidepost Tours will arrange special itineraries for groups and individuals wishing to visit war sites in the Asia Pacific Region. Some scheduled tour are listed below but most can be tailored to suit a private group.

Guidepost Tours - revisiting our war heritage through Asia and the Pacific Regions.

7 nights Port Moresby, Bomana, Owers Corner, Popondetta, Buna/Gona, Kokoda. Attending the Anzac Day dawn service at Bomana War Cemetery outside Port Moresby is one of those things to do before you die. This tour provides an opportunity to learn about the Bomana War Cemetery and its role in Australia’s military history, and explore some of the locations where the Pacific Campaign unfolded and those now buried at Bomana saw action. The 7 nights core tour is fully escorted by one of our experienced company staff and commences with visits to WW2 points of interest around Popondetta including the battlefields of Buna, Gona, Sanananda and the northern end of the Kokoda Track at Hoi village near Kokoda, then picks up the story at the opposite end of the Track at Owers Corner, and the final resting place of the campaign heroes at Bomana.  2 night tour extensions are offered to Lae/Salamaua, Milne Bay, Rabaul and Wewak. Contact Guidepost Discovery Tours. (EM-PNG)

Trek dates year round but best months between April and November - The Kokoda Track is by far the most popular trek in Papua New Guinea and takes between 6-9 days to complete. It is a physical and mental challenge and the difficulty of the track should not be underestimated. This track was made famous during WW11 and still bares the scars of a fierce campaign. For those of you who had loved ones fighting in PNG during WW11, this walk can be a very spiritual and emotional experience.  Contact Guidepost Tours (PNGT)

Port Moresby, Bomana War Cemetery, Owers Corner, Popondetta, Gona, Sanananda, Buna, Kokoda. This is a special package for independent travellers.   Contact Guidepost Discovery Tours. (EM-PNG)

May, August & November tour dates - This tour begins at Sandakan and follows the true Death March route to Ranau. Ending at Labuan Island where the POW’s are buried in the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery. Unfortunately here we have yet another horrific, untold story. The Sandakan Death March has been a “Conspiracy of Silence” until recent years. The story needs to be told. This trek is the next step that all Australians who have walked with us along the Kokoda Trail should consider taking. The  trek should be considered strenuous. A high level of fitness is required. Whilst the terrain of the death march is not unduly mountainous, the conditions can often be extreme – you will be walking in high temperatures, often in full sun and  with a high level of humidity. The trek is vehicle supported and provides an exit option each day for trekkers not wishing to undertake walking the whole track. Contact Guidepost Tours. (PNGT)
