Timor Leste - East Timor

Timor-Leste has a wide range of attractions to offer, characterized by both uniqueness and diversity. From the natural landscapes to the friendly people and historical heritage, Timor Leste presents itself as an unexplored and untouched land. The more urban feeling of the capital contrasts with the remote and unspoiled beaches located to the east and south of the country.   

When talking about sun, sand and sea, Timor-Leste offers white sand beaches with crystal-clear waters framed by luxurious vegetation and coral reefs. Dili (Díli) and Kom (Com) offer a number of supporting activities and infrastructures, while the rest of the country’s coast displays a range of beautiful and untouched beaches waiting to be discovered.       

Despite the fact that the country spreads across only 15.000 km² that has no impact on the variety of landscape one can find. The mainland, the Oekusi (Oecussi) enclave and the islands of Ataúru (Ataúro) and Jaku (Jaco) encompass a wide range of landscapes: from the mountain areas of Maubisi (Maubisse), Ermera and Ainaru (Ainaro) to the savannah plains of Lautein (Lautém), from the rice and coffee plantations in Bobonaru (Bobonaro) and Aileu to the rain florest of Lore, the choices are plenty.

The natural setting is complemented by a unique built heritage. The traditional architecture used in each district along with the historical legacy of the colonial period provides several sites of interest. Portuguese fortresses and churches, sacred houses and other monuments are scattered throughout the land, enriching this cultural experience and individualizing our tourism offer in the Asia-Pacific context.  

Perhaps the biggest asset is the people of Timor Leste. A friendly and welcoming people with many traditions and a significant cultural heritage. Being predominantly catholic, but keeping their animist traditions, the Timorese have a number of rituals and traditions that add up to the singularity of this country and complement its tourism offer, making travelling a true experience.
