GREAT ANDEAN TRAIN ADVENTURES - 16 days

TRAIN RIDE FROM LIMA TO HUANCAYO - 4 days

 You travel on Peru’s least known, but most spectacular train from Lima to Huancayo. During the 12-hours journey, the train travels 346 km (214 mi), crosses 58 bridges and traverses 69 tunnels on its way to Huancayo. The train has to do 6 zigzags to reach the second highest train station in the world at an altitude of 4781 m.a.s.l. (15’686 ft). The train journey is extremely scenic and breath-taking; there is no other train journey like this on earth.

EL CHEPE - COPPER CANYON RAILWAY - MEXICO

The Chihuahua-Pacifico Railway runs 655kms from Los Mochis on Mexico's west coast to the city of Chihuahua, passing through 87 tunnels and across 36 bridges. At one stage it has to negotiate a triple loop to gain altitude. The train, El Chepe, runs daily in each direction. The journey takes you to some of the most remote yet spectacular regions of northern Mexico.

ANDEAN EXPLORER - PERU

Crossing the Andes meant constructing, what was then, the highest railway in the world. Opened in 1908, the line runs 339kms from Cuzco to Juliaco and on to Lake Titicaca. The Andean Explorer as a first class train between running between Cuzco and Puno by Lake Titicaca, styled on the great Pullman trains of the 1920's. THE TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS

The Train to the Clouds - tren de las nubes - is one of the tree highest railway journeys in the world. The whole trip takes almost 15 hours, crossing 29 bridges, 21 tunnels, 13 viaducts, 2 "curls" and 2 zig-zags. Due to the height at which the train moves, it is quite common to see clouds under the bridges or at the mountainsides, hence the choice of its name.
