TAIWAN RAILWAY ADVENTURE with Scott McGregor - October 2013

Taipai : Sun Moon Lake : Mt Alishan : Kaohsiung City
Taiwan is a treasure: mountainous, scenic and full of contrasts, it’s a melting pot of cultural influences from Asia’s great powers. This autumn adventure begins in bustling Taipei, now home to some of China’s most important art works and tallest buildings. You’ll be whisked by high speed train to the magical resort of Sun Moon Lake and then climb sedately – on Victorian era switchback railways – the mountains and giant cypress forests of Mt Alishan. Continue the round trip by rail heading south to Kaohsiung City, and across to historic Taitung and then, hugging the east coast, journey along the ravines and cliffs to the stunning Taroko Gorge. Along with the island’s famous natural beauty, hot springs and fascinating indigenous cultures, modern Taiwan is bursting with friendly energy. Its luxury accommodation, delicious food and sensational shopping are legendary. No wonder the old Portugese mariners called it Lila Formosa, ‘The Beautiful Island’, and that was before there were any railways to marvel at! Reservations on Scott McGregor's Railway Adbventures only with Guidepost Rail Tours.
