The Chihuahua-Pacifico Railway runs 655kms from Los Mochis on Mexico's west coast to the city of Chihuahua, passing through 87 tunnels and across 36 bridges. At one stage it has to negotiate a triple loop to gain altitude. The train, El Chepe, runs daily in each direction. The Train to the Clouds - tren de las nubes - is one of the tree highest railway journeys in the world. The whole trip takes almost 15 hours, crossing 29 bridges, 21 tunnels, 13 viaducts, 2 "curls" and 2 zig-zags. Due to the height at which the train moves, it is quite common to see clouds under the bridges or at the mountainsides, hence the choice of its name.
